We are pushing away the good to pull towards the best.
As we talked about in the message this past Sunday, fasting does not always have to do with food. For many of us, pushing food away would not be a very difficult thing to do. It would be much more difficult to stop watching sports for a week or completely take ourselves out of social media. For each of us individually, we have to make a decision of what we want to say “no” to. But, then we have to fill that time with something else.
That something else is simple. Opening God’s Word, the Bible, and reading it. Spending time in prayer talking to God. These two things must fill the time of that which you are saying “no” to.
People all over the community have set aside times and dates throughout the next 21 days to fast. For some, they are fasting the entire 21 days. For others, it’s a regular time each week.
Some interesting examples of things fasted from that I’ve seen are:
No Electronics at dinner table.
No Video Games.
Spending Fridays in God’s Word instead of at the bar.
